Hello beauty!
My name is Brittany MacKinnon, you can call me Britt. I’m a 38 year old Group Fitness Instructor and Personal Training Specialist. I reside in Kitchener, Ontario, although I am originally from Halifax, Nova Scotia.
Since a young age I have always been physically active. Swimming and biking have always been my favorites. Throughout my school years as a pre-teen and teen I competed in track and field, was on the cross country team and loved hanging out after school to play soccer or basketball.
Later in life at the age of 25 I was introduced to 26 & 2, the original hot Yoga. I became completely submersed into my yoga practice for 9 years. In this time I completed just over 2000 classes. I ate, slept and breathed hot Yoga. In 2017 I started taking Inferno Hot Pilates at a local studio. I loved it so much I decided to take the Level 1 Inferno Hot Pilates teacher training in 2018 and Level 2(with weights) in 2020. My fascination about the human body and wanting to learn more about body mechanics led me to the decision to become a Certified Personal Training Specialist at the end of 2020.
I have always had a calling to help other women around me.
When I was young girl I became a survivor of sexual abuse and later physical and mental abuse. Those experiences haunted my life for many years and I had completely lost touch of my self-worth. I knew it was my mission to help other women once I started to step back into the confident, fearless woman I knew I was capable of being. I have a duty to share my story and let other women know that they are not alone.
For many years I have been on my healing journey and throughout it I also completed my studies of Social Work. However, I knew life still had a different plan intended for me. Given that I have always had a strong passion to help others and also believe in the mental benefits from fitness, I decided it was time to blend my 2 passions and start giving women the tools they need to feel empowered again through their workouts.
Fitness is so much more than the physical benefits! In the sessions I coach, I place a huge focus on mindfulness and the psychological effects fitness has.
You will get connected with your self-worth once again. It gives you confidence to take with you when you leave your workouts. You start noticing that you hold your head high because you feel proud of yourself and wouldn’t want to be anyone else.
As a Women’s Fitness Coach my belief system is that life is all about balance, eating the foods you love while being on a sustainable fitness journey. I never started my fitness journey to get shredded, I started to prove to myself that I am capable of doing anything I put my mind to, and to show other women that they can do the same.
Thanks for reading my story and learning about how I have turned a negative into a positive!
